Brian Transeau was born in Rockville, Maryland in 1971.
He began his musical education at a particularly young age, learning to play the piano at the age of 3, and beginning classical music training at the tender age of 13.
Thoughout his studying, Brian would listen to and take inspiration from synthesizer groups at the time - artists suck as Depeche Mode and Yes.
He went to the Berklee School of Music after high school but dropped out after one year and moved to LA. It was on his return to Rockville that he got together with Ali Shirazinia and began producing his own dance music.
In 1993, Ali's Deep Dish label provided the release of his first two singles - "A Moment Of Truth" and "Relativity".
Although not hugely popular in the US, the tracks did well in the UK and were played at clubs such as Ministry Of Sound and Cream, and when UK DJ
Sasha heard a copy of BT's next big Production
"Embracing The Sunshine" he flew the American over to meet Paul Oakenfold who immediately signed him to his
Perfecto label.
One of the first things Paul did was to get BT to remix Grace's
"Not Over Yet" and he did not disappoint, producing an epic progressive trancer with all the BT signature elements.
BT followed the success of
"Embracing The Sunshine" with his debut album -
"Ima". This groundbreaking album defined the progressive house sound of the time and went on to inspire many producers and spawned another single in
"Loving You More" that featured the vocals of Vincent Covello.
BT teamed up with
Sasha to remix Seal's
"I'm Alive" - an epic progressive house classic.
In 1996 he produced his first big hit in the US -
"Blue Skies" featuring Tori Amos. The track was a club and chart success on both sides of the Atlantic.
In 1997, BT released his second album - ESCM. This was a much more diverse piece of work than Ima and contained house, trance and breakbeat tracks. The single
"Flaming June" was probably the closest in style to his previous album and did well in the clubs.
BT's third album, Movement in Still Life was even more diverse, including hip hop tracks as well as breaks and trance. The biggest single from the album was
"Never Gonna Come Back Down" but he also achieved success with
"Godspeed".
